U.S. government wants to make Firefox Add-on MafiaaFire disappear

The Mozilla Foundation has at present with an unusual request of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security ( Department of Homeland Security DHS) in this light. This requires the development community, the Firefox add-on MafiaaFire redirector the range of the official add-on removed from site. The browser plug-directs queries from specific domains to automatically alternate domains.

Obviously, this refers mainly to domains that were confiscated by U.S. authorities because of copyright infringements and disabled. Documents, which included illegal video streaming portals. If the MafiaaFire add-on enabled in your browser, the surfer will eventually end up not on the blocked domain, if he calls, but on a mostly European countries hosted evasive presence, then where the illegal content remain accessible. This kind of circumvention of locks is the DHS seems to be a thorn in the side.

Mozilla refuses been successful result of the Ministry to make the call. We always respond to valid court orders, but such a lie by MafiaaFire not occur in the case, Anderson said Mozilla's legal Harvey in his blog . Anderson documented now that he is the DHS on 19 April, several inquiries concerning the request was sent.

In particular, he wanted to learn about the ministry, because if ever a court the lawfulness of the add-ons have doubts. He also asked for clarification on whether the request is a legal character. According to him, Mozilla today to demand an answer to get. The General Counsel points out that, according to the Mozilla Foundation to fundamental issues such as censorship and the open internet goes.

Governments man, all the time, they have to block and make the cool stuff disappear. I thought we weren't in China, I guess I'm wrong.

Sounds like the sort of thing they'd want to do.

I'm in the same boat as adiaphoros, not quite sure what the add-on does. If it does what I THINK it does, it's a very clever add-on. Government can't have people being clever now can it?

Funny how western governments are all for this kind of things when it's happening in countries that face extreme censorship like China or Iran
